The Super Bowl took place on 5 February, attracting numerous audience watching worldwide. The halftime show provided by Lady Gaga was awe-inspiring to many, especially when she opened with God bless America. The lights behind her lined up to become the Pepsi logo and the American flag. Some said the effects were simply better than the usual fireworks.
These background lighting effects were in fact the innovation of Intel, known as “Shooting Star”. During the performance, 300 drones carrying LEDs were deployed to form various patterns of different colours via the control of computer programs. Substitute LEDs were prepared in advance when the flying lights run low on battery.
This is not the first deployment of such technique for a performance. Disney also trialled with these LEDs during their winter performances in the past, with each LED controlled by an individual person.
