On 22nd April 2015, the Hong Kong government announced the ‘Make It Happen’ proposal. As we have all expected, it remains confined to the 31 August Framework. Not only is the nomination threshold raised, unmarked votes are even regarded as invalid. Paying no regard to their repute any more, the sly bureaucrats simply rip off their feigned mask, claiming that the approval of the political reform shall realize Article 45 of the Basic Law in which ‘the ultimate aim is the selection of the Chief Executive by universal.’ In view of such peremptory and barbaric regime which continues neglecting the citizens, we have no choice but only rise to defend ourselves.

There was once ‘room for discussion’ before the Framework was in place. While several moderate proposals had been given by scholars in hope of compromise, Beijing remained unmoved and unaltered. The further hurdles in turn served as the undoubted proof that Communist shall never be believed in. While the fantasy of ‘democratic handover’ was already shattered, a few legislative councillors still hung on to such absurd delusion, hoping to exchange their veto power for the abolishment of the functional constituencies and other ever-breaking promises. At this crucial mark of our time, the Pan Democrats actually oversee one third of veto power. Betrayal of Hong Kong or flattery to the communist shall only result in bombarding reprimand and eternal opprobrium. Instead of a transaction with the fiend, they had better remain resolute to civil nomination and to veto such a hoax.

The fate of our city now lies on our hands. We are to determine our destiny, in which we shall have no mercy nor tolerance towards any foreign interference. Whether the political reform shall pass remain uncertain, but universal suffrage has already become a mere mirage. ‘I rebel, therefore we exist.’ Albert Camus’s sentence somehow describes the current devastation and dilapidation. Thus, we must be armoured for struggle, and safeguard our last tinge of dignity, once and for all.
