對於富商馬斯克公開反對減稅與支出法案，美國總統特朗普感到非常驚訝和失望。
特朗普周四（6月5日）在白宮橢圓形辦公室表示，不知道能否與馬斯克保持良好的關係。
特朗普又說，寧願馬斯克批評他，而不是批評他的減稅法案，又說馬斯克連日批評法案，是對政府計劃撤銷電動車消費者稅額減免感到不高興。
馬斯克隨即在社交平台回應，說法案一次都沒給他看過，而是在深夜迅速通過。馬斯克又說，如果沒有他，特朗普可能在去年大選落敗，民主黨會控制眾議院。
馬斯克又轉載了大量特朗普談及平衡預算的舊帖文，反問昔日的特朗普去了哪裡。
